Lanc\u00e9 sous le nom <strong>Stena Britannica<\/strong>, il est revendu d\u00e8s 1968 \u00e0 un armateur \u00e9tasunien. En 1973, le navire est rachet\u00e9 par <strong>Rederi Ab Sally<\/strong> et exploit\u00e9 sur les lignes de <strong>Viking Line<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En juin 1980, le ferry est affr\u00e9t\u00e9 par <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/29\/brittany-ferries-lhistoire-depuis-1973\/\" title=\"Brittany Ferries | L\u2019histoire depuis 1973\">Brittany Ferries<\/a><\/strong> pour une dur\u00e9e de deux ans. Le second navire est lanc\u00e9 le 25 novembre 1966 et livr\u00e9 le 20 d\u00e9cembre sous le nom <strong>Stena Britannica<\/strong>. Cependant, \u00e0 sa livraison, le trafic de la ligne G\u00f6teborg &#8211; Kiel ne justifie pas l&rsquo;engagement de deux navires, et d\u00e9cision est prise d&rsquo;affecter <strong>Stena Britannica<\/strong> sur la ligne G\u00f6teborg &#8211; Frederikshavn (Danemark).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e9anmoins, <strong>Stena Britannica<\/strong> est rapidement jug\u00e9 redondant dans la flotte et d\u00e8s avril 1968, <strong>Stena Line<\/strong> vend le navire \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00c9tat d&rsquo;Alaska pour service entre Seattle et l&rsquo;Alaska. Le navire quitte G\u00f6teborg le 7 mai 1968 pour Vancouver o\u00f9 il est renomm\u00e9 <strong>Wickersham<\/strong> et pr\u00e9par\u00e9 pour son nouveau service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La carri\u00e8re contrari\u00e9e de Wickersham<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Les projets de l&rsquo;\u00c9tat d&rsquo;Alaska sont rapidement contrari\u00e9s. En effet, <strong>Wickersham<\/strong> n&rsquo;ayant pas \u00e9t\u00e9 construit aux \u00c9tats-Unis, les affaires maritimes refusent de l&rsquo;enregistrer sous pavillon \u00e9tasunien. Le navire est donc enregistr\u00e9 au Panama, ce qui le bannit du trafic int\u00e9rieur pour lequel il a \u00e9t\u00e9 achet\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s sa pr\u00e9paration, le ferry est donc engag\u00e9 sur une ligne reliant Prince Rupert (Canada) \u00e0 Haines (Alaska) via Ketchikan (Alaska) et Juneau (Alaska). En mars 1972, l&rsquo;\u00c9tat d&rsquo;Alaska obtient finalement une d\u00e9rogation pour engager <strong>Wickersham<\/strong> sur la ligne Haines &#8211; Seattle. Cependant, sa capacit\u00e9 est restreinte par la dimension des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9tasuniens, bien plus imposants que les v\u00e9hicules europ\u00e9ens pour lesquels le navire avait \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u. L&rsquo;acquisition de <strong>Wickersham<\/strong> devient n\u00e9anmoins un sujet de controverse politique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1973, <strong>Wickersham<\/strong> est donc mis en vente. Deux armateurs manifestent leur int\u00e9r\u00eat, mais aucune d&rsquo;entre elle ne parvient \u00e0 conclure la vente. <strong>S.O.L. Lines<\/strong> (Pays-Bas) ne verse pas les fonds requis tandis que <strong>Spyros Maylivenos<\/strong> (armateur Grec implant\u00e9 en Italie) ne parvient pas \u00e0 remplir les formalit\u00e9s douani\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Le retour de Viking 6 dans la Baltique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 28 mai 1974, <strong>Rederi Ab Sally<\/strong> acquiert le navire et le renomme Viking 6. Apr\u00e8s car\u00e9nage \u00e0 Seattle, le navire rejoint la mer Baltique o\u00f9 il int\u00e8gre la flotte de <strong>Viking Line<\/strong> pour service sur la nouvelle ligne Stockholm (Su\u00e8de) &#8211; Helsinki (Finlande). Il reprend son service trans-baltique. En f\u00e9vrier 1978, une passag\u00e8re passe par-dessus bord au milieu d&rsquo;un champ de glace. Tomb\u00e9e sur un morceau de glace, l&rsquo;\u00e9quipage parvient \u00e0 s&rsquo;approcher d&rsquo;elle et \u00e0 la rapatrier \u00e0 bord en ouvrant la porte avant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D&rsquo;une capacit\u00e9 relativement r\u00e9duite par rapport aux autres navires en service sur la mer Baltique, <strong>Redery Ab Sally<\/strong> envisage l&rsquo;extension de <strong>Viking 6<\/strong> en septembre 1978. Le projet consiste en l&rsquo;ajout d&rsquo;une section m\u00e9diane pour cr\u00e9er 250 couchettes et du lin\u00e9aire de garage pour une vingtaine de v\u00e9hicules l\u00e9gers suppl\u00e9mentaires. N\u00e9anmoins, le projet n&rsquo;est pas men\u00e9 \u00e0 son terme et <strong>Rederi Ab Sally<\/strong> cherche alors \u00e0 vendre le navire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Go\u00eblo, un second navire pour Saint-Malo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 7 novembre 1979, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/29\/brittany-ferries-lhistoire-depuis-1973\/\" title=\"Brittany Ferries | L\u2019histoire depuis 1973\">Brittany Ferries<\/a><\/strong> exprime son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour affr\u00e9ter <strong>Viking 6<\/strong> \u00e0 compter de l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 1980 pour une dur\u00e9e de deux ans. Son arriv\u00e9e permettrait de substituer au <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/02\/m-v-penn-ar-bed-1974-1984-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Penn-Ar-Bed (1974-1984) | Brittany Ferries\">Penn-Ar-Bed<\/a><\/strong> un ferry aux am\u00e9nagements passagers plus aboutis sur la populaire ligne Saint-Malo &#8211; Portsmouth. Op\u00e9r\u00e9 quelques semaines par <strong>Sally Line<\/strong> entre Dunkerque (France) et Ramsgate (Angleterre), il est affr\u00e9t\u00e9 par <strong>North Sea Ferries<\/strong> pour service entre Rotterdam (Pays-Bas) et Hull (Angleterre) durant l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 1985.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;affr\u00e8tement de <strong>Viking 6<\/strong> avait \u00e9t\u00e9 rendu n\u00e9cessaire par la requisition de <strong>Nordland<\/strong> par la Royal Navy dans le cadre de la guerre des Malouines. Cependant, sa capacit\u00e9 bien inf\u00e9rieure \u00e0 Nordland pose d&rsquo;importantes probl\u00e9matiques d&rsquo;exploitation. De plus, son service est \u00e9maill\u00e9 de plusieurs incidents, d&rsquo;une gravit\u00e9 limit\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 09 ao\u00fbt 1980, <strong>Viking 6<\/strong> accueille \u00e0 son bord le Prince Philip, qui voyage vers les Pays-Bas pour assister \u00e0 une course \u00e9questre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 l&rsquo;issue de son affr\u00e8tement par North Sea Ferries, <strong>Viking 6<\/strong> b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie d&rsquo;un court arr\u00eat technique \u00e0 Bremerhaven puis est affr\u00e9t\u00e9 par <strong>Juelsminde-Kalundborg Linien<\/strong> pendant la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 de d\u00e9cembre 1982, pour service entre Juelsminde et Kalundborg (Danemark). Le 22 d\u00e9cembre 1982, le navire est acquis par <strong>Sol Line<\/strong> et renomm\u00e9 <strong>Sol Olympia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sol Olympia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 compter d&rsquo;avril 1983, <strong>Sol Olympia<\/strong> effectue un service de cabotage entre Ha\u00effa (Isra\u00ebl) et la Pir\u00e9e (Gr\u00e8ce), via Limassol (Chypre) et Rodos (Gr\u00e8ce). Le service est par la suite \u00e9tendu jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 Venise (Italie). <strong>Sol Olympia<\/strong> op\u00e8re ce service durant deux ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour la saison estivale 1985, <strong>Rederi Ab Sally<\/strong> affr\u00e8te le navire pour l&rsquo;op\u00e9rer dans le d\u00e9troit de Kvarken. Cependant, les espaces d\u00e9di\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9quipage ne sont pas conformes aux attentes des \u00e9quipages finlandais. <strong>Sol Olympia<\/strong> &#8211; renomm\u00e9 <strong>Viking 6<\/strong> pour l&rsquo;occasion &#8211; est donc affect\u00e9 sur la ligne Dunkerque &#8211; Ramsgate o\u00f9 sa faible capacit\u00e9 fret pose \u00e0 nouveau probl\u00e8me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ferry Lines<\/strong> envisage d&rsquo;affr\u00e9ter le ferry au cours de l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 1986 pour service entre G\u00eanes (Italie) et Olbia (Sardaigne, Italie). Cependant, en raison de son pavillon chypriote, les autorit\u00e9s italienne n&rsquo;autorise pas sa mise en service. <strong>Viking 6<\/strong> b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie n\u00e9anmoins d&rsquo;un car\u00e9nage \u00e0 G\u00eanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une fin de carri\u00e8re dans le giron du groupe Moby<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En novembre 1986, <strong>Navigazione Arcipelago Maddaleno Spa<\/strong> acquiert le navire. Renomm\u00e9 <strong>Moby Dream<\/strong>, il est engag\u00e9 sur la ligne de <strong>Navarma<\/strong> qui relie La Spezia (Italie) \u00e0 Bastia (Corse, France). <strong>Moby Dream<\/strong> op\u00e8re ce service pendant six ans, lorsqu&rsquo;il est transf\u00e9r\u00e9 \u00e0 la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 s\u0153ur <strong>Sardegna Line<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renomm\u00e9 <strong>Sardegna Bella<\/strong>, le navire est engag\u00e9 sur la ligne Livourne (Italie) &#8211; Olbia. <strong>Sardegna Bella<\/strong> op\u00e8re ce service jusqu&rsquo;en 1998, lorsqu&rsquo;il est victime d&rsquo;un incendie qui endommage sa machinerie.
