Sa mise en service permet d&rsquo;accro\u00eetre la capacit\u00e9 offerte au fret sur la ligne Caen (Ouistreham) &#8211; Portsmouth, en attendant la livraison de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/28\/m-v-normandie-1992-2025-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Normandie (1992-2025) | Brittany Ferries\">Normandie<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le navire est le dernier d&rsquo;une s\u00e9rie de trois, construite aux Pays-Bas en 1973 pour le compte de <strong>Stena<\/strong> et destin\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;affr\u00e8tement. Ces derniers sont construits aux chantiers n\u00e9erlandais <em>A Vuyk &amp; Zonen&rsquo;s Scheepsweren<\/em>, \u00e0 Capelle aan den IJssel. Les deux premiers, <strong>Stena Sailer<\/strong> et <strong>Stena Seatrader<\/strong>, sont lanc\u00e9s entre la fin-1972 et d\u00e9but-1973.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le troisi\u00e8me ferry de cette s\u00e9rie, d\u00e9nomm\u00e9 <strong>Stena Shipper<\/strong>, est lanc\u00e9 le 16 juin 1973 et remis \u00e0 son propri\u00e9taire 24 septembre 1973. Il est affr\u00e9t\u00e9 par <strong>Union Steamship Co of New Zealand<\/strong> et rebaptis\u00e9 <strong>Union Wellington<\/strong>. Union Wellington est op\u00e9r\u00e9 en <strong>Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande<\/strong> jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la fin de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e 1975, apr\u00e8s quoi le ferry est restitu\u00e9 \u00e0 <strong>Stena<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 son retour en Europe, <strong>Stena Shipper<\/strong> est agrandi de 27 m\u00e8tres pour accro\u00eetre sa capacit\u00e9 de transport de fret. \u00c0 l&rsquo;issue de cette op\u00e9ration, <strong>Stena Shipper<\/strong> est affr\u00e9t\u00e9 par la compagnie grecque <strong>Aghiris Lines<\/strong> et renomm\u00e9 <strong>Alpha Express<\/strong>. En pr\u00e9vision d&rsquo;un affr\u00e8tement \u00e0 <strong>Sealink<\/strong> (British Railways), il est ensuite envoy\u00e9 aux chantiers Ankom Smith&rsquo;s Docks de Middelsbrough pour adapter son garage au transport de trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renomm\u00e9 <strong>Speedlink Vandguard<\/strong>, le navire d\u00e9bute ses rotations le 21 ao\u00fbt 1981 entre Harwich (Angleterre) et Zeebruges (Belgique). Le 19 D\u00e9cembre 1982, <strong>Speedlink Vanguard<\/strong> entra en collision avec <strong>European Gateway<\/strong> \u00e0 Harwich, provoquant le naufrage du ferry de <strong>Townsend Thoresen<\/strong>. Les dommages sont bien plus limit\u00e9s sur <strong>Speedlink Vandguard<\/strong>, qui est r\u00e9par\u00e9 en une dizaine de jours. Suite \u00e0 cet affr\u00e8tement, le navire est renomm\u00e9 <strong>Caribe Shipper<\/strong>, puis <strong>Stena Shipper<\/strong> et enfin <strong>Kirk Shipper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Normandie Shipper, un navire de renfort pour Caen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En janvier 1986, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/19\/m-v-cornouailles-1977-1989-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Cornouailles (1977-1989) \u2013 Brittany Ferries\">Cornouailles<\/a><\/strong> op\u00e8re les premi\u00e8res travers\u00e9es entre Caen (Ouistreham) et Portsmouth. En 1999, l&rsquo;ex-<strong>Normandie Shipper<\/strong> est finalement achet\u00e9 par <strong>Adecon Shipping Ltd<\/strong> qui le fait car\u00e9ner en Pologne en pr\u00e9vision d&rsquo;un potentiel affr\u00e8tement \u00e0 <strong>Falcon Seafreight<\/strong>, affr\u00e8tement qui ne verra finalement pas le jour \u00e0 la derni\u00e8re minute. \u00c0 cette occasion, le navire est renomm\u00e9 <strong>Bonavista<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En juillet 2001, <strong>Bonavista<\/strong> est une nouvelle fois revendu et renomm\u00e9 <strong>Boa Vista<\/strong>. Il est engag\u00e9 sur une ligne reliant Brevik (Norv\u00e8ge) \u00e0 Hirtshals (Danemark), via le port de Holmelstrand. En juin 2002, <strong>Boa Vista<\/strong> est transf\u00e9r\u00e9 sur une ligne reliant Langesund (Norv\u00e8ge) et Hirtshals (Danemark).
