Il est con\u00e7u pour prendre la suite de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/29\/m-v-val-de-loire-1993-2006-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Val de Loire (1993-2006) | Brittany Ferries\">Val de Loire<\/a><\/strong> sur les lignes Roscoff &#8211; Cork et Plymouth &#8211; Santander. En vue d&rsquo;un \u00e9ventuel transfert vers Portsmouth, il est dot\u00e9 d&rsquo;une puissante motorisation lui permettant de r\u00e9aliser la travers\u00e9e Portsmouth &#8211; Santander en 24 heures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tout comme pour la construction de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/27\/m-v-bretagne\/\" title=\"M\/V Bretagne (1989 \u2013 2024) \u2013 Brittany Ferries\">Bretagne<\/a><\/strong> 15 ans plus t\u00f4t, un soin particulier est port\u00e9 dans la conception des am\u00e9nagements int\u00e9rieurs de <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong>. Une place importante est r\u00e9serv\u00e9e \u00e0 des \u0153uvres artistiques. D&rsquo;ailleurs, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> tire son nom d&rsquo;un village du sud-Finist\u00e8re, surnomm\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0la cit\u00e9 des peintres\u00a0\u00bb. La capacit\u00e9 de <strong><strong>Bretagne<\/strong><\/strong> se r\u00e9v\u00e8le rapidement insuffisante, il est donc remplac\u00e9 en 1993 par <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/29\/m-v-val-de-loire-1993-2006-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Val de Loire (1993-2006) | Brittany Ferries\">Val de Loire<\/a><\/strong>, rachet\u00e9 \u00e0 la compagne <em>TT-Line<\/em>. Bien que moins cossu que son pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseur, <strong>Val de Loire<\/strong> est rapidement adopt\u00e9 par la client\u00e8le et l&rsquo;\u00e9quipage et il contribue aux succ\u00e8s des lignes de la fa\u00e7ade Atlantique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alors que la construction de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/04\/m-v-mont-st-michel-2002-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Mont St Michel (2002) | Brittany Ferries\">Mont St Michel<\/a><\/strong> bat son plein, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/29\/brittany-ferries-lhistoire-depuis-1973\/\" title=\"Brittany Ferries | L\u2019histoire depuis 1973\">Brittany Ferries<\/a><\/strong> souhaite achever le renouvellement de sa flotte. Seuls <strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/20\/m-v-duc-de-normandie-1986-2004-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Duc de Normandie (1986 \u2013 2004) \u2013 Brittany Ferries\">Duc de Normandie<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> et <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/20\/m-v-coutances-1978-2007-truckline-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Coutances (1978-2007) \u2013 Truckline &amp; Brittany Ferries\">Coutances<\/a><\/strong> datent alors d&rsquo;avant 1989. Face au succ\u00e8s des lignes de la fa\u00e7ade Atlantique, d\u00e9cision est prise de construire un nouveau navire amiral qui remplacerait <strong><strong>Val de Loire<\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 5 juin 2002, <strong><strong>Brittany Ferries<\/strong><\/strong> commande aux chantiers<em> Meyer Werft<\/em> de Papenburg (Allemagne) un ferry croisi\u00e8re de 184 m\u00e8tres de long et d&rsquo;un tonnage de 41 758 GT. Ce navire serait ainsi le plus gros de la flotte de l&rsquo;armement. Sa quille est pos\u00e9e le 9 avril 2003 et le navire est lanc\u00e9 le 13 septembre 2003. Il r\u00e9alise sa travers\u00e9e inaugurale au d\u00e9part de Plymouth le 24 mars 2004 et est baptis\u00e9 officiellement le 26 avril 2004. En parall\u00e8le de la mise en service de son nouveau navire amiral, <strong>Brittany Ferries<\/strong> en profite pour introduire une nouvelle identit\u00e9 graphique. La police de caract\u00e8re utilis\u00e9e pour le logo de la compagnie devient sans serif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cependant, les premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es de service de <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> sont marqu\u00e9es par une s\u00e9rie d&rsquo;incidents. Le 10 ao\u00fbt 2004, le car-ferry est victime d&rsquo;une inondation de sa salle des machines auxiliaires, cons\u00e9quence d&rsquo;une vanne d\u00e9faillante. Immobilis\u00e9 pendant deux jours \u00e0 Plymouth, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> prend par la suite la route de Brest o\u00f9 il est r\u00e9par\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 l&rsquo;automne, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> est transf\u00e9r\u00e9 sur la ligne de Saint-Malo &#8211; Portsmouth. Cependant, la compagnie est contrainte de souder sa porte avant qui pr\u00e9sente des probl\u00e8mes d&rsquo;\u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9 en mer. Il rencontre en effet une vague sc\u00e9l\u00e9rate de 19 m\u00e8tres de haut &#8211; correspondant \u00e0 la moiti\u00e9 de son tirant d&rsquo;air qui brise les sabords du point 6 et inonde plusieurs cabines. Le ferry est d\u00e9rout\u00e9 sur Roscoff, o\u00f9 les sabords endommag\u00e9s sont remplac\u00e9es par des plaques de m\u00e9tal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> reprend la mer le 26 mai alors que ses cabines n&rsquo;ont pas toutes \u00e9t\u00e9 remises en \u00e9tat : elles le seront au cours des travers\u00e9es suivantes. modernisation de Pont-Aven<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Faute de motorisation GNL, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> est \u00e9quip\u00e9 entre janvier et mars 2016 d&rsquo;un syst\u00e8me d&rsquo;\u00e9puration des fum\u00e9es en boucle ferm\u00e9e. Ce syst\u00e8me permet de lessiver \u00e0 l&rsquo;eau de mer les fum\u00e9es avant d&rsquo;en r\u00e9duire la teneur en souffre. Le syst\u00e8me en boucle ferm\u00e9e permet de nettoyer l&rsquo;eau avant de la rejeter \u00e0 la mer. Du fait de sa puissance, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> est \u00e9quip\u00e9 de deux dispositifs qui sont positionn\u00e9s de part et d&rsquo;autre de la chemin\u00e9e d&rsquo;origine du navire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le chantier de modernisation a lieu \u00e0 Gdansk \u00e0 compter de janvier 2016 et dure pr\u00e8s de trois mois. <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> ne reprend ainsi son service que le 4 avril 2016. Cependant, d\u00e8s le 7 mai, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> rencontre une panne s\u00e9rieuse sur l&rsquo;une de ces h\u00e9lices, qui impose son d\u00e9routement vers Brest o\u00f9 il retourne en cale-s\u00e8che. R\u00e9par\u00e9, il reprend son service le 26 mai 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Durant l&rsquo;hiver 2018-2019, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> re\u00e7oit la nouvelle identit\u00e9 graphique de la compagnie s\u00e9rieuse avarie de Pont-Aven<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 29 avril 2019, \u00e0 4 heures du matin, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> est victime de l&rsquo;incendie de l&rsquo;un de ces quatre moteurs principaux. Le signal d&rsquo;alarme est d\u00e9clench\u00e9 pendant que l&rsquo;\u00e9quipage tente d&rsquo;\u00e9teindre l&rsquo;incendie. Au bout de quarante minutes, il y parvient et <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> est d\u00e9rout\u00e9 sur Brest, escort\u00e9 par le remorqueur de haute-mer <em>Abeille Bourbon<\/em>. L&rsquo;incendie ne fait aucune victime mais d\u00e9truit compl\u00e8tement le moteur et endommage le moteur adjacent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Des r\u00e9parations provisoires sont effectu\u00e9es et avec l&rsquo;autorisation des Affaires Maritimes, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> reprend la mer sur trois moteurs le 13 mai. Pour l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 2019, ses travers\u00e9es Portsmouth &#8211; Santander sont annul\u00e9es et remplac\u00e9es par des travers\u00e9es Plymouth &#8211; Santander. En effet, avec seulement trois moteurs, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> ne peut pas atteindre la vitesse de croisi\u00e8re de 24 n\u0153uds requise sur cette travers\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une nouvelle avarie se produit d\u00e8s le 17 mai, lorsque le gouvernail de <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> c\u00e8de. Il retourne \u00e0 Brest pour r\u00e9paration et ne reprend du service que le 14 juin. Durant cet arr\u00eat technique, le pont garage et sa coque sont perc\u00e9es pour extraire la carcasse calcin\u00e9e du moteur et introduire son rempla\u00e7ant. Pendant ce temps, la pand\u00e9mie de Covid-19 se d\u00e9clare et force les gouvernements europ\u00e9ens \u00e0 imposer des mesures de restrictions de la circulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alors que <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> aurait du reprendre son service commercial le 17 mars, ses travers\u00e9es sont annul\u00e9es. Dot\u00e9 de deux ponts garages pour les poids-lourds, ce dernier dispose \u00e9galement d&rsquo;une coque optimis\u00e9e et d&rsquo;une motorisation limit\u00e9e \u00e0 deux moteurs pour r\u00e9duire sa consommation de carburant. \u00c0 l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e de ce nouveau navire, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/04\/m-v-pont-aven-2004-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Pont-Aven (2004) | Brittany Ferries\">Pont-Aven<\/a><\/strong> est d\u00e9sarm\u00e9 et ne reprendra du service que le 6 juin 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deux autres E-Flexer sont mis en service en 2021 et 2023. Cependant, <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> reste le navire amiral de la compagnie. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9tudi\u00e9 le remplacement de son bulbe d&rsquo;\u00e9trave, la compagnie choisit d&rsquo;\u00e9quiper <strong>Pont-Aven<\/strong> d&rsquo;un \u00ab bec de canard \u00bb \u00e0 sa poupe, lors de l&rsquo;hiver 2023-2024.
