Ces derni\u00e8res lui permettent d&rsquo;envisager le remplacement du vieillissant <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/25\/m-v-quiberon-1982-2002-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Quiberon (1982-2002) | Brittany Ferries\">Quiberon<\/a><\/strong>. Pour ce faire, la compagnie projette d&rsquo;acqu\u00e9rir le ferry <strong>Koningin Beatrix<\/strong> pour la ligne Caen (Ouistreham) &#8211; Portsmouth, o\u00f9 il aurait succ\u00e9d\u00e9 au <strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/20\/m-v-duc-de-normandie-1986-2004-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Duc de Normandie (1986 \u2013 2004) \u2013 Brittany Ferries\">Duc de Normandie<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>. Ce dernier serait alors \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9 sur la ligne Roscoff &#8211; Plymouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En effet, malgr\u00e9 le lancement du Tunnel sous la manche, le succ\u00e8s de la ligne Caen (Ouistreham) &#8211; Portsmouth ne se d\u00e9ment pas. D\u00e8s lors, la diff\u00e9rence de capacit\u00e9 entre les deux navires affect\u00e9s \u00e0 la ligne est probl\u00e9matique pour <strong>Brittany Ferries<\/strong>. \u00c0 compter de mai 2000, elle se r\u00e9sout donc \u00e0 affr\u00e9ter <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/26\/m-v-purbeck-1978-2002-truckline\/\" title=\"M\/V Purbeck (1978-2002) | Truckline\">Purbeck<\/a><\/strong> pour assurer des travers\u00e9es r\u00e9serv\u00e9es au fret en compl\u00e9ment du service op\u00e9r\u00e9 par <strong>Duc de Normandie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cependant, l&rsquo;acquisition du <strong>Koningin Beatrix<\/strong> tourne au cours. Le 11 septembre 2000, <strong>Brittany Ferries<\/strong> et la <strong>SENACAL<\/strong> commandent donc aux chantiers n\u00e9erlandais <em>Van der Giessen de Noord<\/em> un navire mixte d&rsquo;une capacit\u00e9 de 175 remorques de fret. Le projet est lanc\u00e9 sous le nom de <strong>Normandie (2)<\/strong>, mais change plusieurs fois de nom durant la construction. Sa livraison est annonc\u00e9e pour l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 2002. La conception de <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> s&rsquo;inspire de celle de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/28\/m-v-normandie-1992-2025-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Normandie (1992-2025) | Brittany Ferries\">Normandie<\/a><\/strong>. <strong>Brittany Ferries<\/strong> souhaite en effet proposer un niveau de service homog\u00e8ne sur les deux navires op\u00e9r\u00e9s sur sa principale ligne. Toutefois, le futur <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> se distingue de son a\u00een\u00e9 par une double chemin\u00e9e. Cette conception, similaire \u00e0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/04\/m-v-barfleur-1992-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Barfleur (1992) | Brittany Ferries\">Barfleur<\/a><\/strong>, permet en effet de lib\u00e9rer un vaste pont garage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> est lanc\u00e9 le 16 mars 2002. Cependant, la finalisation de ses am\u00e9nagements int\u00e9rieurs prend du retard, rendant improbable sa livraison pour l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9. Cependant, le transfert de <strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/20\/m-v-duc-de-normandie-1986-2004-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Duc de Normandie (1986 \u2013 2004) \u2013 Brittany Ferries\">Duc de Normandie<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> sur la ligne Roscoff &#8211; Plymouth est d&rsquo;ores-et-d\u00e9j\u00e0 le 9 juillet 2002. Pour compenser l&rsquo;absence de son nouveau fleuron, <strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/29\/brittany-ferries-lhistoire-depuis-1973\/\" title=\"Brittany Ferries | L\u2019histoire depuis 1973\">Brittany Ferries<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> prolonge l&rsquo;affr\u00e8tement de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/26\/m-v-purbeck-1978-2002-truckline\/\" title=\"M\/V Purbeck (1978-2002) | Truckline\">Purbeck<\/a><\/strong> et transf\u00e8re <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/25\/m-v-quiberon-1982-2002-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Quiberon (1982-2002) | Brittany Ferries\">Quiberon<\/a><\/strong> sur la principale ligne de son r\u00e9seau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> d\u00e9bute finalement ses essais en mer le 8 novembre 2002, tandis que sa livraison est effective le 11 d\u00e9cembre. <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> arrive finalement \u00e0 Caen le 13 d\u00e9cembre 2002 et r\u00e9alise sa travers\u00e9e inaugurale peu apr\u00e8s, le 20 d\u00e9cembre 2002. Cons\u00e9quence de la livraison retard\u00e9e du ferry, les chantiers <em>Van der Giessen de Noord<\/em> feront faillite peu apr\u00e8s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery Toutefois, de nouvelles normes sur les \u00e9missions de souffre des navires doivent entrer en vigueur le 1er janvier 2015. Ces derni\u00e8res bannissent l&rsquo;utilisation du fuel lourd pour les navires d\u00e9pourvus d&rsquo;\u00e9purateurs de fum\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour pr\u00e9server la rentabilit\u00e9 de <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong>, <strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/29\/brittany-ferries-lhistoire-depuis-1973\/\" title=\"Brittany Ferries | L\u2019histoire depuis 1973\">Brittany Ferries<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> annonce au d\u00e9but de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e 2014 la remotorisation du ferry Gaz Naturel Liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9 (GNL). 1973\">Brittany Ferries<\/a><\/strong>. La compagnie est donc contrainte d&rsquo;imposer aux partenaires sociaux une modification des conditions de travail des personnels navigants, le temps de retrouver la comp\u00e9titivit\u00e9. Ce plan suscite le m\u00e9contentement des salari\u00e9s. Au d\u00e9but de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e 2015, les matelots de <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> et de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/28\/m-v-normandie-1992-2025-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Normandie (1992-2025) | Brittany Ferries\">Normandie<\/a><\/strong> entament un mouvement de gr\u00e8ve intermittent, perturbant le service de la ligne Caen &#8211; Portsmouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si un accord est trouv\u00e9 pour y mettre un terme, un nouveau front s&rsquo;ouvre avec les dockers de Ouistreham, qui exigent une augmentation de 5% de leurs salaires. Pour appuyer leurs revendications, ils immobilisent \u00e0 quai <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> le 06 mai 2015. Les actionnaires de la compagnie jugent les revendications inacceptables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans la nuit du 9 au 10 mai 2015, une vingtaine d&rsquo;actionnaires emmen\u00e9e par Jean-Marc Rou\u00e9, pr\u00e9sident de la compagnie, p\u00e9n\u00e8trent dans la zone portuaire de Ouistreham et lib\u00e8rent <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong>. Moins de vingt minutes apr\u00e8s leur arriv\u00e9e, <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> appareille pour le port de Roscoff, dont ce sera la premi\u00e8re et unique visite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le lendemain de la lib\u00e9ration de <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong>, les dockers des ports de Ouistreham, Le Havre, Cherbourg et Saint-Malo refusent l&rsquo;accostage de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/28\/m-v-normandie-1992-2025-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Normandie (1992-2025) | Brittany Ferries\">Normandie<\/a><\/strong> en provenance de Portsmouth. Le navire se d\u00e9route alors vers Roscoff. Mais ayant perdu leur moyen de pression, les dockers de Ouistreham l\u00e8vent leur mouvement le 11 mai au soir, permettant la reprise de l&rsquo;exploitation de la ligne Caen &#8211; Portsmouth le d&rsquo;\u00e9purateurs de fum\u00e9e. Ce chantier est en effet rendu n\u00e9cessaire par l&rsquo;abandon du projet de conversion au GNL. Les travaux ont lieu \u00e0 Santander, o\u00f9 <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> arrive le 28 septembre. Contrairement \u00e0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breizh-ferries.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/28\/m-v-normandie-1992-2025-brittany-ferries\/\" title=\"M\/V Normandie (1992-2025) | Brittany Ferries\">Normandie<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> est \u00e9quip\u00e9 d&rsquo;un syst\u00e8me en boucle ferm\u00e9e, qui retraite les eaux utilis\u00e9es pour nettoyer les fum\u00e9es avant de les rejeter \u00e0 la mer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cependant, ce syst\u00e8me est plus encombrant et ne peut \u00eatre log\u00e9 dans la salle des machines. Une troisi\u00e8me chemin\u00e9e est donc construite sur l&rsquo;ancienne esplanade encadr\u00e9e par les deux chemin\u00e9es principales de <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong>. 75 jours de travail sont n\u00e9cessaires pour mener \u00e0 bien l&rsquo;op\u00e9ration. <strong>Mont St Michel<\/strong> reprend son service commercial le 18 d\u00e9cembre 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 21 d\u00e9cembre 2016, <strong>Brittany Ferries<\/strong> signe une lettre d&rsquo;intention pour un nouveau car-ferry destin\u00e9 \u00e0 la ligne Caen &#8211; Portsmouth. Tirant profit du retard pris dans la construction de <strong>Honfleur<\/strong>, elle en annule la commande le 17 juin 2020. Toutefois, la compagnie ne renonce pas au projet de moderniser sa flotte et cherche une solution moins on\u00e9reuse.
